Book Club
Dear Friend,
Harbor's Book Club is designed to be a resource for you and your family to draw you closer to God and as a necessary result to experience more joy, peace and contentment in your life. At Harbor, we don't believe that anyone should have to check their mind at the door of the church. In other words, we believe that Christianity holds the answer to the deepest longings of our souls through its emphasis on the person of Jesus Christ and what he accomplished through his life, death and resurrection 2000 years ago. And, we believe that people with honest questions and doubts should be taken seriously and treated with great dignity. So, we want to get resources in your hands that can facilitate your pursuit of God and that deal seriously with your objections to the Christian Faith. Enjoy!

Our Featured Book:
Amusing Ourselves To Death By Neil Postman.
"I can't think of a more prophetic, more thoughtful, more necessary-and yes, more entertaining-book about media culture." ~Victor Navasky, publisher, The Nation
"All I can say about Neil Postman's brilliant Amusing Ourselves To Death is: Guilty As Charged!"
~Matt Groening, Writer & Producer of The Simpsons
Neil Postman's book is a must read for those who want to be able to think deeply about the impact of television media on culture in North America. For a Christian who longs to have a vibrant spiritual life the truths revealed in this book are extremely helpful. One of the lost arts in late 20th/early 21st century Christianity is the spiritual discipline of Biblical meditation and the ability to think deeply about the faith that leads to life transforming application. Perhaps one of the reasons for this "lost art" in our day is what Postman calls the resonance of a media-based culture centered on television.
This book isn't a call for our society to carry their televisions out to the curb. However, it highlights important things that we should consider regarding the impact that television media has had on us, our children, and the broader culture. I highly recommend it!
