Romeo and Juliet
Act 2. Scene II
ROMEO:
O, wilt thou leave me so unsatisfied?
JULIET:
What satisfaction canst thou have to-night?
You may or may not be familiar with this famous dialogue from William Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet. I can relate to Romeo in this scene. Before I gave my life back to the Lord, I felt like Romeo. I could not be satisfied. I tried to fill the void in my life with anything I could possibly find. However, everything I did left me feeling more and more empty.
I was raised in a Christian home, but by the age of 13 I refused to go to church. In the ten plus following years I came up with my own religion: my self. A couple of years ago I gave my life back to God: He graciously called me back to Himself. He showed me that He is the only one who can fill that void.
My family and I started attending Harbor Presbyterian Church in February of 2006. That was the first time our family had ever stepped into a church together. I thank God for that everyday. For the past year (almost) my life has changed in ways I never would have imagined. Through our God's mercy and love, Harbor Church and our church family, we have been able to mend what was an almost broken marriage. Without the influence and impact of Harbor and its members, I know we would not have the marriage that we have today. Our relationship is so strong, not perfect, but is perfected through Christ's love, and the Christian leadership and family that we have around us everyday.
We have been through an amazing marriage group and have developed some strong tools to help our marriage. We are a part of a remarkable community group that meets each week, and from that we have made some godly lastly relationships. I truly call them my family, and I have been encouraged, strengthened, and guided by their love for God for me.
I have also seen so much growth in my own family. Our priorities have changed. What it means to be a family, who we are, and how much we love each other, has changed. There is a beautiful willingness to forgive, which only comes from God and being plugged into a church like Harbor. My children have learned what it means to be a child of God, and so have I. And in regards to that void I had, well, I have learned it was placed there by God because He has an undying love for me that He wants to fill.
It has been inspiring to see all the things Harbor is a part of in this community of Chula Vista, California, as well as our southern neighbors in Mexico. Mercy Ministries gives us so many opportunities for service. There is so much going on in our church; it is such a blessing to be a part of this precious family.
It is a gift God gives to us to be a part of His children, to worship, to grow, to encourage and love. I embrace my church, and I long to give back as much as I can. That's how a church should make you feel. Our pastor, Russ Kapusinski, is a man who listens to God. He cares deeply for the people in this church, and I see that every Sunday. I hear it in his sermons and see it in his actions. We are so grateful for his leadership in our lives.
Each morning when I rise and again at night when my head hits the pillow I can say the next line to Shakespeare's play, "What satisfaction canst thou have to-night?" God gives me all that I need. "Apart from Him I have no good thing." I thank God everyday for His everlasting love, and for this church to which He guided us. I look forward to Act 3. Scene 1. in my own life because of what God has done this far.
